Out With The Old

When Joann first came to me she and her husband had already spent years trying to solve their kitchen issues.

Joann’s home was built in the 1970s and had a typical 1970s kitchen: small U-shape, dark cabinets, soffits, can lights, minimal countertop space…the list goes on.

She knew what she wanted her new kitchen to look like, but couldn’t quite figure out how to do it with the space she currently had.

That’s where I came in.

Right out of the gate, I saw multiple design issues that are common in older-style homes:

➡️Crowded

➡️ Off-center sink

➡️Inadequate countertop space

➡️Dishwasher blocking drawers

➡️Cabinets crowding the window frame

The Inspiration

Joann provided me with the following inspiration photos which showed a large, beautiful open space.

Much different than what she originally had!

One of the most important things about a kitchen remodel is making sure the new space goes with the rest of the home.  You don’t want the new space to look so overdone that it makes the rest of the house look older.  When I was looking at Joann’s modern inspirational photos I was thinking of ways to make it an updated and fresh version, but not too over the top.

My job was to look at the space she had and figure out how we could give her the look she wanted.

Ultimately, Joann and her husband made the decision to build an entirely new room off of their house to give them the open space they desired.

Take a look at how much brighter and open the room is now!

Listen in to hear how we worked through the design issues!
